What is the equation for the parabola with focus $(- \frac{1}{2}, 0)$ and directrix $x = \frac{1}{2} ?$

Solução
The focus has the form $(p, 0),$ so the equation will have the form $y^{2} = 4 p x .$
- Multiplying $4 p,$ we have $4 p = 4 (- \frac{1}{2}) = −2.$
- Substituting for $4 p,$ we have $y^{2} = 4 p x = −2 x .$
Therefore, the equation for the parabola is $y^{2} = −2 x .$
