Add Integers: example 3.23

When $n = −5,$ evaluate

ⓐ $n + 1$
ⓑ $- n + 1 .$

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution

ⓐ Evaluate $n + 1$ when $n = −5$

Simplify.

ⓑ Evaluate $- n + 1$ when $n = −5$

Simplify.
