Add Integers: example 3.25

Evaluate ${(x + y)}^{2}$ when $x = −18$ and $y = 24 .$

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution
This expression has two variables. Substitute $−18$ for $x$ and $24$ for $y .$

${(x + y)}^{2}$

${(−18 + 24)}^{2}$

Add inside the parentheses. ${(6)}^{2}$

Simplify $36$
