Multiply and Divide Fractions: example 4.20

Simplify: $- \frac{18}{24} .$

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution

We notice that 18 and 24 both have factors of 6. $- \frac{18}{24}$

Rewrite the numerator and denominator showing the common factor.

Remove common factors.

Simplify. $- \frac{3}{4}$
