Add and Subtract Fractions with Common Denominators: example 4.56

Find the sum: $\frac{2 n}{11} + \frac{5 n}{11} .$

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution

$\frac{2 n}{11} + \frac{5 n}{11}$

Add the numerators and place the sum over the common denominator. $\frac{2 n + 5 n}{11}$

Combine like terms. $\frac{7 n}{11}$
