Example 5.3 from Prealgebra, 5.1 Decimals
Write twenty-four thousandths as a decimal.
Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.
| twenty-four thousandths | |
| Look for the word "and". | There is no "and" so start with 0 0. |
| To the right of the decimal point, put three decimal places for thousandths. | |
| Write the number 24 with the 4 in the thousandths place. | |
| Put zeros as placeholders in the remaining decimal places. | 0.024 |
| So, twenty-four thousandths is written 0.024 |
The book's Try It right after this example: same idea, new numbers. Only the answer is given.
Write as a decimal: fifty-eight thousandths.
How did it go?
