Solve Equations with Decimals: example 5.43

Solve: $−4.8 = 0.8 n .$

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution
We will use the Division Property of Equality.
Use the Properties of Equality to find a value for $n .$

We must divide both sides by 0.8 to isolate n.

Simplify.

Check:

Since $n = −6$ makes $−4.8 = 0.8 n$ a true statement, we know we have a solution.
