Understand Percent: example 6.12

Convert $\frac{5}{7}$ to a percent.

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution
To change a fraction to a decimal, we divide the numerator by the denominator.

$\frac{5}{7}$

Change to a decimal—rounding to the nearest thousandth. $0.714$

Write as a percent. $71.4%$
