Solve Equations Using the Subtraction and Addition Properties of Equality: example 8.4

Solve: $n - \frac{3}{8} = \frac{1}{2} .$

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution

Use the Addition Property of Equality.

Find the LCD to add the fractions on the right.

Simplify

Check:

Subtract.

Simplify.
