Solve Equations Using the Division and Multiplication Properties of Equality: example 8.14

Solve: $\frac{a}{−7} = −42 .$

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution
Here $a$ is divided by $−7 .$ We can multiply both sides by $−7$ to isolate $a .$

Multiply both sides by $−7$ .

Simplify.

Check your answer. Let $a = 294$ .
