Solve: $a = 43 .$

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution
We will add $16$ to each side to isolate the variable.

Add 16 to each side.

Simplify.

The solution to $27 = a - 16$ is $a = 43 .$
