Introduction to Factoring Polynomials: example 10.88

Factor: $6 x^{2} + 5 x .$

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution

$6 x^{2} + 5 x$

Find the GCF of $6 x^{2}$ and $5 x$ and the math that goes with it.

Rewrite each term as a product.

Factor the GCF. $x (6 x + 5)$

Check by multiplying.

$x (6 x + 5)$
$x \cdot 6 x + x \cdot 5$
$6 x^{2} + 5 x ✓$
