Finding the Difference of Two Matrices

Find the difference of $A$ and $B .$

A = [\begin{matrix} −2 & 3 \\ 0 & 1 \end{matrix}] and B = [\begin{matrix} 8 & 1 \\ 5 & 4 \end{matrix}]

Work it out on paper first. Then open the solution one step at a time, and stop as soon as you can finish on your own.

Solution
We subtract the corresponding entries of each matrix.

$\begin{array}{l} A - B = [\begin{array}{r} - 2 & 3 \\ 0 & 1 \end{array}] - [\begin{array}{r} 8 & 1 \\ 5 & 4 \end{array}] \\ = [\begin{array}{r} - 2 - 8 & 3 - 1 \\ 0 - 5 & 1 - 4 \end{array}] \\ = [\begin{array}{r} - 10 & 2 \\ - 5 & - 3 \end{array}] \end{array}$
